Montreal Protocol emerges as a powerful climate treaty

The United Nations report: Ozone layer recovery on track. 

A new report from the U.N., which includes key scientific contributions from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and international partners, confirms that the recovery of Earth’s protective ozone layer is on track, and that the Montreal Protocol, the international treaty that guides the phase-out of ozone-destroying chemicals, has had the additional benefit of slowing global warming.

Earth’s ozone layer on course to mend within decades, UN report finds

Depletion of the ozone  layer has been steadily improving in the wake of the 1989 Montreal Protocol, a global agreement to protect the Earth’s ozone layer by phasing out chemicals such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) initially used as solvents and refrigerants.

Sound Management of Refrigerants

UN Environment OzonAction and ASHRAE have developed an interactive web-based eLearning course entitled “Sound Management of Refrigerants.” This course is 6.5 hours of instruction that covers best practices for air conditioning and refrigeration specialists. Topics covered include Environmental Issues and Refrigerant Management, Refrigerant Terminology, Numbering, and Classification; System Lubricants and Applications, Good Service Practice: Refrigerant Recovery, Recycle, and Reclaim (3 R’s), and Refrigerants and Containers Safety Aspects.

Launch of CVQ Certification Programme for RAC Technicians

During the period January, 2019 to December, 2019 twenty five refrigeration and air conditioning technicians will be participating in the Levels I and II Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) Refrigeration and Air conditioning programme.  The programme is being implemented by the Government Technical Institute with support from the National Ozone Action Unit, through HCFC Phase-out Management Plan project.
