In observance of World Refrigeration Day, 2019 a live panel discussion on the refrigeration and air conditioning sector was aired on national television on Guyana on June 24, 2019. The panelists included Mr. Zainool Rahaman of the National Ozone Action Unit, Mr. Carlyle Benjamin of the University of Guyana and Mr. Patrick Chinedu of the Ministry of Education. The key discussions included the importance of the cooling sector to our society, the impact of this sector on our environment and how the sector can better position itself to ensure that development within this sector is undertaken in a sustainable manner. The discussion was moderated by Ms. Nerissa Pearson, TV / Radio Producer of the National Communications Network.

Since R22 will no longer be manufactured or imported into the U.S. by the end of this year, the market will be relying on existing stock or recycled R22. It’s unclear what will happen to the availability and price of R22, but If history repeats itself and responds in a similar way to the CFC phaseout, supplies are likely to dwindle and the price is likely to go up.

Webinar: World Refrigeration Day
9:00 – 10:30 am AST on Wednesday 26 June 2019
Learn from industry experts as they talk about the latest science, applications, and legal concerns for those dealing with refrigerants. For an hour and a half, this webinar captures the overall global state of policies, research, and trends for using refrigerants in a variety of applications, while presenting the role of industry, government, and the individual in ensuring the responsible use of refrigerants.
Invitation to the Webinar on the Secondary Loop – Mobile Air Conditioning Project, 21 May 2019, 9:00 – 10:00 AM
21 May 2019, Tuesday, 9:00 – 10:00 AM
With funding from the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), the Institute for Governance & Sustainable Development (IGSD), in collaboration with automobile Manufacturer Tata Motors Limited (TML) based in Pune, India, and the Technology System Supplier, MAHLE Behr Troy Inc. based in Stuttgart, Germany, has demonstrated a new technology called secondary loop mobile air conditioning (SL-MAC), which achieves significant reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with both refrigerant and motor fuel.
In this regard, we invite you to this webinar which will present the results of the project which was completed in December 2018. This demonstration project designed, tested and validated an SL-MAC system that achieved energy-efficient operation in high ambient air temperatures, such as those in India, when compared to existing direct expansion (DX) mobile air conditioners. These outcomes will encourage global implementation to phase down high global warming potential hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), a short-lived climate pollutant (SLCP).
Agenda
- Introduction by the CCAC Secretariat
- Presentation: “Secondary Loop – Mobile Air Conditioning Project: Final Results and Path Forward”
- Discussion
Panelists:
- Ms. Nancy J. Sherman, PhD, Director of Technical Assessment, Institute for Governance & Sustainable Development
- Mr. Timothy Craig, Head, Thermal Pre-Development, Advanced Engineering, MAHLE Behr Troy Inc.
- Mr. Sourav Chowdhury, Senior Product Engineer, MAHLE Behr Troy Inc.

One overlooked way to fight climate change? Dispose of old CFCs.
The banned refrigerants not only degrade ozone, they act as greenhouse gases. New models are making it easier to get rid of old stocks.

RAC technicians participate in Good Servicing Practices workshop
Fifty six refrigeration and air conditioning technicians participated in a Good Servicing Practices workshop from January 19 to February 16, 2019. The workshop was conducted as part of the HCFC Phase-out Management Plan Stage II- I project in keeping with Guyana’s Montreal Protocol’s ozone depleting substances phase-out programme. Technicians were exposed to 40 hours of training on the following areas:

World takes a stand against powerful greenhouse gases with implementation of Kigali Amendment
The world has taken an important step on the road to drastically reduce the production and consumption of powerful greenhouse gasses known as hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and limit global warming, with the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer coming into force on 1st January 2019.
