To be one of three winners of a new tablet, all you have to do is:

This year, we celebrate 35 years of the Vienna Convention and 35 years of global ozone layer protection. Life on Earth would not be possible without sunlight; but the energy emanating from the sun would be too much for life on Earth to thrive were it not for the ozone layer. This stratospheric layer shields Earth from most of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet radiation. Sunlight makes life possible, but the ozone layer makes life as we know it possible. World Refrigeration Day Partners release under the Theme “ Cold Chain 4 Life”.

As part of the 2020 celebrations for the World Refrigeration Day (WRD); the WRD Secretariat, ASHRAE, European Partnership for Energy and Environment (EPEE), the Global Food Cold Chain Council (GFCCC), the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) and UNEP OzonAction are jointly raising the awareness of the importance of the Cold Chain sector and its vital role for food safety and security as well as human health. The joint Campaign is entitled: “COLD CHAIN 4 LIFE”

COVID-19: Safety Guides

Prevention measures for health and hygiene

  1. Wash your hands often. It is recommended to make available hydroalcoholic solutions for handwashing in all public places such as gyms, supermarkets, pharmacies and other gathering places
  2. Avoid close contact with people who suffer from acute respiratory infections;
  3. Avoid contacts such as hugs and handshakes;
  4. Maintain social distancing of at least one meter;
  5. Practice respiratory hygiene: sneezing and/or coughing in a handkerchief in order to avoid respiratory secretions to get in contact with the hands;
  6. Avoid sharing bottles/glasses between people;
  7. Do not touch eyes, nose and mouth with the hands;
  8. Cover your mouth and nose if you sneeze or cough;
  9. Avoid auto-medicating with any drugs including antibiotics, unless prescribed by a doctor;
  10. Clean all surfaces with chlorine-based disinfectants or alcohol.

World Ozone Day and the importance of the Montreal Protocol: “Keep Cool and Carry On”

ANNUALLY on September 16, we celebrate World Ozone Day. World Ozone Day is a direct result of the Montreal Protocol, which is one of the most significant environmental treaties. The Montreal Protocol successfully committed 197 of the world’s nations, including Guyana, to cooperate in phasing out the use of Ozone- depleting substances in 1987.

Train-the-trainers workshop for enforcement officers

During the development of Guyana’s HCFC Phase-out Management Plan Stage II project, the need to train Customs Officers and other enforcement personnel and collaborating agencies in the legal framework in place to monitor and control trade in ozone depleting substances was recognised as an important element of the overall phase-out strategy.
